Reconnecting an expired Facebook session without losing your show

The warning appears at the worst time: Facebook is marked Facebook session expired just before the broadcast. You do not need to rebuild the whole show. The connection has lost its authorization, so refresh that authorization before you activate the Facebook destination.
What expired?
ApexStream does not use your Facebook password as the ongoing connection. When you authorize Facebook, the service receives a token that allows it to create and manage the live connection on your behalf. Facebook can invalidate that token after a password change, a long period without streaming, or a routine security refresh.
When the token is no longer valid, ApexStream cannot send the feed to that destination and shows the expired-session warning. You can still have a valid YouTube or Twitch connection, so a multistream may appear healthy elsewhere while Facebook is not ready.
Check the destination before go-live
Make Facebook part of the pre-show connection check. Look at the status indicators for the destinations you plan to use. Green means the connection is ready; a red or expired state means it needs attention.
Do this before starting Web Studio or your encoder. If Facebook is the only destination you repair after the show begins, you may be live on the other channels while trying to solve an authorization problem in the middle of the opening.
Use Re-connect, not delete
Find the Facebook destination with the warning and click Re-connect. The button starts a fresh authorization flow. Facebook may ask you to confirm the account, Profile, or Page that ApexStream should use. Complete that step, then return to the dashboard and wait for the status to update.
Check which Facebook identity is active in the browser before approving. This is especially important if you manage more than one Page or work with client accounts. Choosing the wrong account can make the connection appear fixed while pointing at the wrong destination.
The workflow supports Facebook Profiles and Pages, not Groups. Confirm the selected Page or Profile after reconnecting. Your saved destination configuration remains in place; deleting and adding a new connection is not the first step you need.
If the warning returns
- Confirm that you are signed into the intended Facebook account.
- Complete every permission screen in the authorization flow.
- Check that the selected Profile or Page still exists and that you have access to it.
- Return to the ApexStream dashboard and wait for the status indicator to refresh.
- Run a short private or unlisted test if the event is important.
If the session expires repeatedly, treat the account and permissions as the first things to inspect. Do not keep deleting the destination and hoping a new label fixes an authorization that is still pointing at the wrong Facebook identity.
Make it a ritual
Tokens can expire again, so add the Facebook status check to the same pre-flight list as your stream key, title, and audio. A thirty-second check before the encoder starts is easier than discovering during the countdown that one audience is missing.
The fix is usually small: find the expired Facebook connection, use Re-connect, approve the right account, and confirm green before you activate the show.
Frequently asked questions
Why can Facebook expire while the other destinations work?
Each platform has its own authorization and live-session context. A Facebook Page token can fail independently while the relay continues sending video elsewhere.
Should I reconnect every platform?
No. Read the per-destination result and repair the Facebook Page connection that failed. Reconnecting healthy destinations creates unnecessary work during a live show.
