If your live show is an interview or a solo conversation, you already recorded most of a podcast. The expensive part was finding the guest, preparing the topic, and having the conversation. Starting a second project from an empty timeline throws away that work.
The practical bridge is: record in Web Studio, let the file finish processing, open the Podcast Studio draft, and edit the conversation you actually made. The result still needs care, but it does not need a second recording session just to become audio.
The blank-episode tax
A blank episode asks you to remember the guest, rebuild the structure, choose a cold open, and locate the strongest answer before you have listened back. That is why a good live conversation can sit untouched for weeks. The work feels like starting over.
On Hobby and above, Podcast Studio can create a draft episode automatically from a Web Studio recording. Turn recording on, run the show, end it cleanly, and wait for processing. When the recording is ready, the draft appears under Episodes. The source recording remains available for the decisions that come next.
What the bridge includes
If you do not have a show yet, ApexStream creates one so the draft has a home. A Show carries the identity fields listeners and directories need: title, cover art, category, language, and explicit flag. The episode is then a piece of that show rather than an orphan file on a laptop.
The automatic bridge applies to recordings made in Web Studio. An external encoder recording does not receive the same automatic draft. For OBS or another RTMP source, open the Editor and use Library Import to bring audio from the Recording Library into Podcast Studio. That extra step reflects the source path; it is not a reason to discard the recording.
Give the recording time to finish processing before you judge the draft as missing. A live show can move through recording, stitching, encoding, and uploading before the asset is ready. Once the file is ready, check that the episode landed under the intended Show rather than creating a second show to work around a temporary status.
Hobby is the floor because recording is the input
Podcast Studio starts on Hobby, and cloud recording starts there too. Free can help you test multistreaming and Web Studio, but Free cannot create a cloud recording to bridge. Hobby is where the loop closes: stream, record, draft, edit, publish.
Creator and above add Magic Tools, AI chapter drafts, and more show capacity. You do not need those features to use the bridge. If a weekly show mainly needs a reliable recording and a starting point, Hobby can be enough.
A draft is not a finished episode
Open the draft with the scissors icon and make the editorial pass. Generate a word-level transcript with Transcribe Audio if it is not ready. Cut the long greeting, rename speakers, remove the “can you hear me?” section, and write a title that makes sense to someone who was not in the live chat. The editing is non-destructive until you publish or export the cut.
Use chapters when the episode benefits from navigation. Use Magic Tools when the source and style call for them. Publish only after listening to the opening, the strongest answer, and the ending. A draft is a reminder that the conversation exists, not a promise that every minute belongs in the feed.
When not to turn a stream into an episode
Rehearsals, partial shows, and streams dominated by technical fixes can stay as drafts or be used only for clips. A live event built around visuals may work better as a VOD than as an audio file. The bridge is a default for conversation, not a command to publish every capture.
Start with the recording you already made. The second pass should tighten the show, not rebuild it.
End each live show with one small ritual: confirm processing, open Episodes, and decide whether the draft deserves a post-production slot. That habit keeps the live hour alive without asking you to record the same idea twice.
The same habit helps with clips. Mark a strong answer during the live show, finish the draft later, and decide whether the moment belongs in the episode, a vertical AI Clip, or both. One recording can serve several formats without forcing every format to contain every minute.
The live-to-podcast handoff
- Record the Web Studio show and let the finished asset reach Ready.
- Open the Podcast Studio draft under the intended Show.
- Edit the opening, remove setup chatter, and check the strongest answer and ending.
- Add chapters and metadata, listen once more, and publish only when the episode earns it.
